Today we celebrated our Marian Procession, an act of love and faith, not just tradition. For Catholics, honoring Mary is deeply rooted in understanding who Jesus is and what God has done through her.
Is Mary God? No. God alone is to be worshipped, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God in three Divine Persons. The First Commandment makes this clear: “You shall not have strange gods before me.”
Then why honour Mary?
Because she is the greatest of all humans, chosen by God to be the Mother of Jesus, true God and true man. She is not divine, but she is:
- The Mother of God
- The Immaculate Conception
- Ever-Virgin
- Assumed into Heaven
- Our Mother and intercessor
We venerate, not worship Mary. We honour her as blessed and full of grace, just as Scripture does, and as Jesus honoured her.
How do we honour Mary?
- By praying the Rosary
- Celebrating her feast days
- Remembering her approved apparitions (e.g., Lourdes, Fatima, Guadalupe)
- Learning from her perfect faith and obedience
The Four Marian Dogmas:
- Mother of God
- Perpetual Virginity
- Immaculate Conception
- Assumption into Heaven
These are truths proclaimed by the Church, grounded in Scripture and Tradition.
In honouring Mary, we are drawn closer to Jesus. Let us entrust ourselves to her care and follow her example of faith, humility, and love.
