Gospel by John 8 31-42
When Jesus was talking to the Jews who had believed in him he said if you continue in my word you are truly my disciples you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. But they did not understand him.
They said we are descended from Abraham we have never been slaves so why are you telling us the truth will set us free when we are already free.
Jesus tells them everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin so we must take responsibility for our failing and sins and strive towards the truth which will set us free. Jesus knew they were ploting to kill him, they were being deceitful Do we sometimes behave in this manner thats why its good to go to confession and examine our conscious and seek the truth
