Mindfulness Course

“Be still and know that I am God”

An 8-week mindfulness course for Christians beginning Tuesday 21st October 2025.

Run by Dr Steve Noone (University of Bangor) and Liz Lord (University of Oxford).
Last few places remaining. Please book asap.

Introduction

Over the last five years Liz Lord and Steve Noone have been working with Fr Roger Dawson, SJ to deliver a new course on Ignatian spirituality, mindfulness and ideas from psychological therapies. The course is typically delivered over a long weekend with opportunities for personal reflection and sharing with like minded people. The course is experiential and offers a chance to learn the nuts and mindfulness practice within a Christian context.

Having delivered this event over ten times, an opportunity has arisen to develop something that could be delivered in a local parish over a much longer period of time. Our hope is to offer a space where parishioners can develop mindfulness skills to help deepen their prayer life and support their wellbeing.

Offer

There is an established way of introducing people to mindfulness practice that has the benefits of clinical research that shows it can be effective and safe. We aim to deliver the core components of an 8 week course but with the addition of a Christian perspective, making space for experiencing elements of the contemplative tradition of prayer.

The course will run once a week on a Tuesday evening (from 6:30- 8:45pm) for eight weeks starting 21st October. There will also be an additional ‘day of practice’ on Sunday 7th December from 1:00 – 6:00pm. The course will finish on Tuesday 9th December.

All participants are asked to find 20 minutes a day for practice six days a week for the duration of the course.

Is this course for me?

The course aims to stay close to the evidenced-based 8 week ‘Mindfulness for Life’ course which has demonstrated benefits for health and well-being. This has been shown to be particularly useful for working with the stresses of life and helping to promote well-being and flourishing.

The course builds core mindfulness skills week by week and offers an opportunity to try new things out and explore whether the approach will be helpful for you over the long term.

Although this course has shown to be helpful, it may not the right time for you. If have experienced a recent bereavement or you are experiencing significant difficulties in your life at present, it may be better to wait.

Venue

All sessions will be held in the St Joseph’s Centre, Brackley Avenue, Colwyn Bay, LL29 7UU.

Cost

This course will be subsidised by the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) group in St Joseph’s Parish. A suggested donation of £30 per place is advised. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
