Journey with the Pope – 29/3/2020

SUNDAY, MARCH 29, 2020

“There are three things that are needed to make a true prayer. The first is faith: if you don’t have faith … And many times, prayer is only oral, from the mouth … but it doesn’t come from the faith of the heart, or from a weak faith … But do I have faith or is it a habit? Let us be careful in prayer: do not fall into the habit without the awareness that the Lord is there, that I am talking to the Lord and that He is capable of solving the problem. The second condition that Jesus Himself teaches us is perseverance. Faith and perseverance go together, because if you have faith you are sure that the Lord will give you what you ask for. And if the Lord makes you wait, knock, knock, in the end the Lord gives grace. But the Lord does not do it, to play interesting or to say “better wait”: no. He does it for our own good, so that we take things seriously. Take prayer seriously, not like parrots: blah, blah, blah, blah, blah and nothing else … And the third thing God wants in prayer is courage. Can anyone think: it takes courage to pray and stand before the Lord? In these days, it’s necessary to pray more. Imagine if we were to pray like this. With faith – that the Lord can intervene; with perseverance and with courage. The Lord never deludes. He makes us wait. He takes His time. But He never deludes. Faith, perseverance and courage. ”

Fifth Sunday of Lent

Psalm 130

With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption.
Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD;
LORD, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to my voice in supplication.

With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption.
If you, O LORD, mark iniquities,
LORD, who can stand?
But with you is forgiveness,
that you may be revered.

With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption.
I trust in the LORD;
my soul trusts in his word.
More than sentinels wait for the dawn,
let Israel wait for the LORD.

With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption.
For with the LORD is kindness
and with him is plenteous redemption;
And he will redeem Israel
from all their iniquities.

With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption.
